Development of In-Line Measurement Techniques for Monitoring Powder Characteristics in a Multi-Stage Spray Drying Process

The integration of spray drying and agglomeration offers significant advantages, such us continuous production with lower energy consumption. However, it is a knife-edge process narrow operating window limited degrees freedom that decide between successful fluidized bed blockage due to excessive moisture. In this contribution, factors influencing the spray-through skim milk powder as model system were investigated via design experiments. Three in-line monitoring methods applied tested observe most important parameters in process—the product moisture particle size distribution. Regarding content, capacitive sensor was calibrated linear regression near-infrared partial least squares regression. Near-infrared spectroscopy found be suitable method for determining while mainly provides information on bulk density, filling level, or fluidization state bed.
